ATI X1900 owner feedback on Accelero S1 Rev 2 cooler
(updated with later comments)

"Recently my ATI X1900 started to sound like a jet taking off whenever I played a game. Almost instantly the fan would kick up to top speed on the video card. After seeing the articles on your website I deceded to try out the (fanless) Accelero S1 Rev2 on my X1900. (ref prev. article here on Nvidia 8800GT w/Accelero S1 Rev 2 cooler)
The installation was painless. Just make sure you use rubbing alcohol on the memory chips followed by the eraser.
Now the loudest thing in my case is the hard drives. This also appears to have eliminated random "sparkle" in dark areas of the screen when the (OEM) fan on the video card was on. Definitely an improvement...
I am not running the optimal cooling fan. Their notes state that this would be required for overclocking but I am not doing that. (See notes on linked page above here on temperatures w/fanless S1/R2 in Mac Pro - after some concerns with another brand/model of passive cooler in the Mac Pro case design.-Mike) When I mounted the cooler I did it slightly different than the instructions utilizing the spring on the underside of the card and the original heat sink screws. So far I have had zero artifacts when playing WoW (note prior to the cooler installation in dark areas of the screen I would get "sparkles" when the cooling fan on the original cooler kicked on. This was almost from day one. Now I have zero sparkles and zero noise.
There are a couple cards according to Arctic that require the fans in a non over-clocked installation. The X1900 was not one of them.
So far it's been a week with some serious time logged into WoW and almost 100% uptime (restarts were initiated by me not the video and were due to a DSL issue I am still trying to resolve.) Video has been rock solid. I do hear the PCI "zone" fan kick up a notch but the bay stays around 40-42 C the whole time. And this fan doesn't make any noise (well barely any). The hard drives chatter more than the fans now.

Anyone used a Network Projector with OS X?
"I wonder if i can draw on the knowledge of your readers to help gather information on Network Projectors that work well with OS X?
NEC seems to offer a couple and have dedicated Mac software (both PPC and Intel) for handling network presenting. (For example the NEC VT800.) I am trying to spec stuff for a job at a school. Losing the cable from the Mac to the projector would be sweet.
Thanks, Kevan
Fix My Mac (UK)"

Not used one of these personally but if any reader has w/OS X, let me know the details.
(Although not a Projector (but could connect to one), I had some replies suggesting (low-cost) networkable media center/players, although they don't support DRM'd material like Fairplay2. I wrote Kevan to ask if showing DRM'd media is a requirement. )

PowerMac G5 Coolant Leaks/Repairs page updated
I've added another reader's notes (Dual 2.5GHz in this case) on getting an out-of-warranty repair at no cost to the PowerMac G5 Coolant Leaks/Repairs page. (Another case where a sr. support person finally OK'd the repair being covered - saving thousands in repair costs.)
