Apple releases Quicktime 7.5.5 Update, Front Row 2.1.6 Update
After installing iTunes 8.0 from download (see below) on the first run there's a note about QT 7.5.5. Running Software Update showed the QT 7.5.5 update and a Front Row update. Here's info from the SU window on these. (Quicktime 7.5.5 now available also from the QT download page.)

"QuickTime 7.5.5 includes changes that increase reliability, improve application compatibility and enhance security.
This release is recommended for all QuickTime 7 users.

For detailed information on the security content of this update, please visit this website: http://www.info.apple.com/kbnum/n61798. (Apple Security Updates page)"

The Security docs page has been updated now with details on today's updates:

Here's the info on the Front Row update:

"Front Row Update 2.1.6
This Front Row update provides improved iTunes 8.0 compatibility and bug fixes."

There's now a download page for Front Row 2.1.6.

(And as a FYI for Windows users, Apple today also released Bonjour for Windows 1.0.5 (w/security improvements) and MobileMe Control Panel 1.1 for Windows.)

New iPods now at Apple Store, iTunes 8 released, iPhone/Touch 2.1 software
The Apple store is back online now with the new iPod models listed. iTunes 8 is now available for download. (FYI - see above also for related QT and Front Row updates.) Here's links to Apple press releases on the new product/announcements today:

Here's a summary from live blogs of today's Apple event. (They've also now posted a Video of the "Lets Rock" Event.)
The new iPod Nano is just like the rumor photos. 8GB/$149, 16GB/$199. (See 4th gen iPod nano TV Ads.) Appx the same battery life as before, but includes an accelerometer for the new "shake to shuffle" feature. New headphones w/pause/play/track nav/volume control on the cord, plus a microphone are being intro'd also ($29/available in Oct.) (IIRC I had something similar but w/o Mic with my original iPod.)
Also there's a new iPod Touch w/built-in Nike+iPod (8GB/$229, 16GB/$299, 32GB/$399) - the updated page has a new guided tour video.
Version 2.1 software for Touch and iPhone is being released on Friday. (FYI - I don't own an iPod touch but the iPod Touch v2.1 update apparently is available now from the iTunes app store. ) The v2.1 update will to be free to iPod Touch owners that bought the 2.0 update, otherwise $9.99. Jobs said v2.1 was a "big update" that fixes lots of bugs (apps crashing, dropped calls, better battery life and faster backups) as well as some security improvements.

The iPod Classic 160GB model is being dropped, leaving a 120GB model ($249).
Also demo'd were new in-ear headphones with dual drivers ("woofer" + tweeter) to be available in October for $79.

iTunes 8.0 was announced (available today) with new browsing options and a "Genius" feature to automatically create playlists of like songs. (Hit the Genius button on a song and iTunes will create a playlist for you of similar songs.) iTunes store is getting new content (w/NBC reportedly coming back). HD TV shows to cost $2.99.

PowerMac G5 Coolant Leaks/Repairs page updated
I've updated the page on PowerMac G5 Coolant Leaks/Repairs with another LCS G5 tower owner report (dual 2.5GHz w/31 months of use) on a failure (leak shorted out PS). He said they gave him a replacement G5 Quad system.
The page here includes many reports on LCS (Liquid Cooled) G5 tower leaks/repairs, a reminder to check frequently for leaks, links to photos of the 2 brands of LCS (Delphi and Panasonic), DIY repairs some owners have done, photos of leak damage, etc.
