AirPort Extreme Update 2008-003 (released, then pulled)
(FYI - This update was originally released as 2008-003, then quickly pulled (within hours) - but re-released (via software update) later as Airport Extreme 2008-004 with the same description as below. As of Sunday, Oct. 26th they had not posted a download page and I'm not going to apply it via software update.)

"About AirPort Extreme Update 2008-003 (now called -004)
This update is recommended for all Intel-based Macintosh computers running Mac OS 10.5.5 and resolves some issues with AirPort connections when roaming in large Wi-Fi networks.

System Requirements: Mac OS X 10.5.5"

Update from Mac Mini/USB to DVI adapter user on DisplayLink 1.0 (non-beta) OS X driver
I've updated the recent article on Mac Mini dual displays using Displaylink OS X drivers with USB-to-DVI adapters with Paul's comments on the (non-beta) DisplayLink 1.0 drivers. (His original report used the beta drivers.) He noted some pros and cons (including a major one) with v1.0 drivers. (He later wrote he's stopped using the adapter until better drivers are released.)

DiskWarrior 4.x Reports page updated
I've updated the Diskwarrior 4 User reports page with a mail from an iMac G5 owner (Diane) on repeated problems (kernel panics) trying to boot/use DW4.x discs. Replacement discs, latest version, tips from alsoft, trying disc with another Mac, etc were of no help.
I asked her to try running the DW app from the hard drive (can't repair boot HD that way but just as a test to isolate out the boot disc vs App) - I've updated the page with her comments the app runs from HD. (And although she had the boot disc issue with 2 Macs, just for the record I asked she run an extended AHT test to see if it showed any errors on the iMac G5 - it didn't.)
Update - added another iMac G5/DW 4.1 user's note that had the same boot problem/KP, saying resetting the PMU solved it.

Cocktail 4.2 adds features/bug fixes (corrupted prefs/Mac OS error codes/ports, more)
(from their email this AM)

"Cocktail 4.2 adds ability to search and delete corrupted preference files, adds a searchable database of Mac OS system error codes, adds a list of commonly used network ports, improves the clear log files procedure, fixes a number of minor bugs discovered in the previous release, contains some interface improvements as well as updated Help files and Automator actions.
The update is strongly recommended for all users of Cocktail (Leopard Edition).
Cocktail 4.2 (Leopard Edition) is available for download from: http://www.maintain.se/cocktail/download.php"

A reader sent a note about his first experience with v4.2 today:

" I tried using Cocktail v4.2 Preferences check feature. It found 2 corrupted prefs for me:
com.Logitech.ControlCenter.plist
com.apple.iphotomosaic.plist
So, I selected the first one (Logitech), and from the drop down "gear" chose to Move to Trash. Worked fine. Then, I selected the second one, and chose again to move to trash. I get an error saying the first one could not be moved to the trash. I looked, and it was there. Yet, no way it moved the second one to the trash, because I get an error about the first one, that DID move to the trash. Would not even "reveal in Finder". I had to manually locate and move that file.
(I asked if he had tried selecting both items to delete at once.)
I did not try that. I only had 2, and selected one at a time to be cautious.
-SCB"

BTW - I've not ran it with 10.5.5 yet, but in the past I've used the (freeware) Preferential Treatment prefs scanner utility. (Another often forgotten app that has come in handy in the past is Apple's ColorSync Utility, which can scan for corrupted/damaged display and printer colorsync profiles and attempt repairs. It's installed by default in your Apps/Utilities folder)
