Reader Tip - OS X 10.1 Drivers for ATI RagePro on CD, Improved Performance Noted:
(Note - see these comments in Friday's news for more info on these drivers.) Mike Zimmerman sent a note and links to two Apple discussion forums where a RagePro (onboard graphics chip used in Beige G3 rev 2s, iMac rev B to rev Ds and Wallstreet2/Lombard systems) noted finding some drivers on the OS X 10.1 CD that were not installed. He copied them over and noted improved performance. Here's the two threads Mike noted:

Apple's forums require a login/account to access and the links above may not work in the future. (My Beige G3 is a server now so I can't test this tip personally.)

Quicksilver Owner Reports Modem Problem After Wake From Sleep in OS X 5L14:
[Note - a lot of readers replied to this post noting they had seen the same problem.]
" Here's a bug report I just filed with Apple. If you are able to, please (edit and) let me know if you are experiencing similar problems.
    cc: xlr8yourmac.com
10.1 + first security update (this issue happened before and after applying that update)
    Silver G4, 733, 40gigHD, 1gigRAM, gf2mx, combo dvd/cdrw, zip drive, factory orig kbd/mouse, factory installed modem.

Problem: deep sleep for at least 30 mins -> wake up -> attempt to connect modem using *either* menu item or Internet Connect app -> jerky rainbow cursor; iTunes halts; system stops responding to remote login or file sharing.

When this happens, the only recourse is hard reboot or power-off. Four second pwr button press *does* still work.

This modem issue is the only thing preventing my G4 from having month-long uptime. (And no, "don't use the sleep feature" is not an acceptable answer.)
Nonetheless, you have converted a staunch Classic user to X.

-- Wayne Chang"

I don't use the modem on my G4s in OS X, but if any reader that has applied the OS X 10.1 security update has seen this problem, let me know.

Article on Belkin 'Nostromo' Gaming Devices used w/Macs:
"Hi Mike,
I wrote a article recently for the main CFGN (http://www.cfgn.net) reviewing two of the members of a family of gaming peripherals that Belkin have released called Nostromo - These gaming devices are not supported on the Mac.. However [even before I'd reviewed them on a PC] I started attempting to get them going on my QS! [Quicksilver] With success under OS 9.2.1 and, following your post yesterday regarding the utility 'Game Pad Companion' I've now managed to get the Nostromo 'Speed Pad controller' working under OS 10.1!
Here's a link to my schpeel on the whole process!:
