Westlake Posts Troubleshooting Unreal Tournament for OS X Page:
"
To help people have a better chance of getting the public preview of UT X to
run on their machines, Westlake has put up a troubleshooting page at:
http://www.westlakeinteractive.com/utxnotes.html
This page will be updated as we find other fixes and workarounds for UT X.

President, Westlake Interactive (http://www.westlakeinteractive.com)"
I've also had problems with UT for OS X with the most common error reported I think - quits when starting a game (on every system with Radeon and GeForce3 cards, DP or Single processor). Requires a reinstall (fresh ini file) after that happens to even startup without quitting. (That is not one of the errors noted on the current troubleshooting page.)

Apple 15 inch LCD (ADB/VGA model) Problem Reports with ATI ROM Update:
I've updated page of reader feedback on the ATI ROM update with more reader reports on the ROM update released yesterday. Included in the latest reports was one from a user of the DrBott DVIator adapter using an Apple 17" LCD ADC display and a bad experience from two owners of the older 15" Apple LCD with ADB cable (for display adjustments) who noted the Apple monitors adjustments were unavailable or had problems after the update. A previous report noted losing some features with an AppleVision 17" CRT monitor also. See the linked page for more details/full reports - there are now quite a few there.

Quake3 1.30 for OS X Performance Comments:
"
Mike-
I was expecting a framerate increase moving from 10.0.4 to 10.1, but WOW!
Just brief testing shows my 1024x768 settings with all options turned on to
their highest settings was pulling 67.7fps under Quake 3 1.29f2 beta under
OS X, 10.0.4 (build 4S10) on my dual 800 w/GF3. I was looking forward to at
least a 20% increase in fps, meaning I was expecting about 80fps under 10.1.
Wrong. Try 104.1fps, just by moving from 10.0.4 to 10.1! Roughly a 50%
increase in fps! I had to double-check my settings, and that increase is
correct.
I noticed you said the 1.30 update for classic Mac OS showed no increase in
frame rate. [in several mode tests on my DP500 w/retail Radeon, vs the prev beta for OS 9. I've not run the OS X update noted in yesterday's news yet. I wish I had more time for games-Mike] The 1.30b1 certainly does. That same setup under 10.1 went from
104.1fps out to 117.4fps!!!
In the matter of a few days, my Quake 3 framerates have nearly doubled
without making ANY hardware changes. I think this bodes well for the future
of games on the Mac...
I intend to do another resolution by resolution breakdown for each
resolution when I get a chance...
-Jarod Wilson"
If you missed yesterday's news - the update is available at ftp://ftp.idsoftware.com/idstuff/quake3/mac.

$545.xx Retail Superdrive:
"Mike-
An awesome price for the Superdrive...I know my fellow site readers will be
interested.
$549.00
http://www.jazztechnology.com/P_499.htm
Alex"
Actually, it's $545 today when I checked the page. (But prices can change on these at any time.) Another reader sent a warning about their restocking fees - 25% he said, so hopefully you won't need to return anything. (that's about 10% higher than most dealers fees). See their policy page for full details. The retail drives come with PC software only, so you'll need Toast 5, DVD Studio Pro, etc. to use the drive for DVD recording (OS X 10.1 should support it with iTunes/Discburner and DVD data recording now and iTunes/DB for OS 9 also support it for non DVR use). iDVD in my experience will not install on older Mac models, although some seem to have found a way around that. (Copying the folder perhaps from an supported system install.)

The Firewire articles page also has guides on case kits, installing drives, etc. If you've added a IDE, SCSI, Firewire or USB hard drive, CDRW, tape drive, etc. make sure you add a report to the database. [If you post an updated entry - make sure you use the same name, etc. as you did before so I can find your past entry. Thanks.]
