Dynolicious v2.0 Update (iPhone/Touch app)
Over the weekend I noticed there's a v2.0 Update to Dynolicious (Automobile performance/test app mentioned here in the past.) Here's their info on v2.0 changes:

"This version of Dynolicious contains major improvements in both user interface and functionality. The Skidpad now features a friction circle view and realtime graphs to help tune your car and driving technique. Graphs from both the timed run and skidpad can be saved in the results for later viewing. Graphs can also be saved to the photo album as images that can be emailed from the phone or transferred to a computer. The calibration routine has been overhauled, and now compensates for all device variations more easily and accurately than ever."

Mac Drive Upgrades/Compatibility Reports Database Updated
The Mac Drive/Storage Upgrades Database had 8 more reports added. Current total - 16,526. (Searching by drive type, brand, mac model etc. listed below will show full reports, most recent first)

    Hard Drives:
  • SATA (onboard) Hitachi Travelstar 5K320 320GB in (Intel-cpu) Mac Mini (OS X 10.5.x)
(includes notes on problems with OEM Seagate 80GB drive, which I suspect was one of the infamous firmware 7.01 models with high failure rates)
  • SATA (onboard) Seagate 1.5TB in Mac Pro (OS X 10.5.x)
(another report on periodic I/O stoppages/stuttering playback w/journaled drive, with link to LONG thread at seagate forums on this issue which is not just a Mac OS problem.)
  • SATA (onboard) Seagate 1.5TB in Mac Pro (OS X 10.5.x)
(another report on stuttering playback if journaling enabled.)
  • SATA (onboard) Seagate Momentus 7200.3 ST9250421AS 250GB in MacBook (OS X 10.5.5)
  • SATA (onboard) Seagate 7200.11 500GB (x2/RAID0) in G5 Tower (OS X 10.4.11)

  • SATA (onboard) Western Digital Raptor 70GB in G5 Tower (OS X 10.5.x)
  • SATA (onboard) Western Digital Velociraptor 300GB in G5 Tower (OS X 10.5.x)

You can read full reports (latest shown first) by searching the database by drive type/brand/interface/mac models. Includes reports on Optical Drives (Blu-Ray, DVD, CD/CDR, etc.), Hard Drives, SSD, Tape drives, Removable media (ORB, ZIP, MO drives), NAS (Network Attached Storage), in all interface types (IDE, SATA, Firewire, SCSI, USB, adapters). To widen search results you can leave drive brand, OS version (or other fields) blank.
If you've added/upgraded a drive in your Mac send me the details (drive info/speed rating/mac model/OS version used, etc.). Note: Please use the drive for at least a week before reporting on it and test for booting from Disc with Optical Drives (as well as burning discs). Thanks.

Mac CPU Upgrade/OC Reports Database Updated
The Rate Your CPU Upgrade database has another report added this morning. (This one an Overclocking report.) Total to date: 10,360. Here's a summary of the latest addition (Search by upgrade brand, mac model, etc. for a complete list/comments of all user reports on matching criteria - latest first).

  • iMac G4/800, OC'd to 900MHz (includes link to resistor settings table and iMac G4 take-apart guide)
(for OC'ing reports select "Apple" as the mfr, then the specific mac model)

(Full reviews of G4 and G3 upgrades compared to stock CPUs, including real world apps/game tests, install info, etc. are linked at the G4 upgrade reviews and G3 upgrade reviews pages. Intel-CPU chip swaps (i.e socketed Mac Mini) and OC/CPU module articles are on the Systems page.)

If you've upgraded the CPU on your Mac, send a review with your experience (performance/stability/installation, etc.), Mac Model/Upgrade brand info and overall rating (1= worst to 10=best). If you can, please run some tests with the original CPU vs the upgrade (for example time some tests with your favorite app, game, etc. - see full reviews here for example tests with common apps/games/benchmarks.)
