First off, I have to express my appreciation for your web site. It has been an invaluable resource so far and I'm glad that I can contribute a (very) little bit at long last.

Recently purchased and installed and OrangeLink+ FW/USB (2.0) combo card in my Beige G3 MT (350 mHz upgrade O/Ced to 400 mHz, 384 MB, OS 9.2.1). Installed in first PCI slot (recommended per documentation) and have Radeon PCI in 3rd slot. Had to go back to install USB card support from the 9.2.1 installer and after that it has worked perfectly to date with testing using Kensington USB mouse. I have also been able to use the Firewire port to enter Target Disk Mode with my Titanium PowerBook (550/256/OSX 10.1.1) successfully.
I have a VST SmartDisk 8/8/24 Firewire CDRW on order for use with both computers, so I will also update the CDRW compatibility DB when I get that info. Thanks and hope this is of use to somebody.

I remembered that the Sierra titles were also available for the Macintosh so I wondered if it was a custom CD disk or just the plain distribution CD from Sierra. So I stopped by and picked up a free CD disk and then placed it into my Macintosh and sure enough, it has the full Mac and PC installers on the same disk.

" I bought the Sonnet Crescendo/WSG3 upgrade for my Powerbook [G3/250] , along with 64MB of RAM, thinking I would need to take one of the 2 128MB DIMMs out, because, like the PowerLogix upgrades for Wallstreet powerbooks, this upgrade is rated only for the max amount of Ram originally dictated by Apple at the time of release, which is 192MB. Well, it was the best $12 (with shipping) I've ever wasted, because I'm happy to say that the upgrade works without so much as a hiccup with 256MB. Been running in both 9 and X for the last two days, through restarts, sleep, and everything.

Installation is, for parts these tiny and connections these snug, relatively easy. Don't notice any difference in sound or temperature, but thes speed is great! Really makes OS X usable, although I didn't upgrade it from 10.0.4 until after this upgrade. One thing I was bummed to see, and hadn't seen mentioned anywhere ales, is that the 83MHz bus speed which the orignal Wallstreet series ran at, is reduced to 66MHz with the upgrade. Oh, well, can't have everything, I guess. But it was nice because with the 83MHz, I was able to keep pace with a friend who had a Wallstreet 2 with a 266MHz processor at 66MHz...not that that matters now ;~)

I give it a 10. Installation is easy. The price is good (cheaper than the Powerlogix...and their 500MHz models are hard to find), and the fact that it's working with 256MB of RAM is icing on the cake! Between this and my 20Gig Travelstar upgrade (thanks Mike...your hard drive upgrade page for the Wallstreet was excellent), my beloved Powerbook should last me a few more years. Now, if only we can get OrangeMicro to release OS X drivers for their forthcoming OrangeCombo USB/Firewire PC card...

Some Bluechip owners noted using more than 192MB I think, but many noted problems with that upgrade of one kind or another in the database here. (I noted a cache speed issue in my Jan 2001 review of the Bluechip 500 in my PB G3/250).
I wondered if the quality of the ram mattered (or even if low-profile dimms helped). Since I reviewed the Newer Tech G3/466 fine in my wallstreet running two 256MB dimms, I had hoped sonnet's would also work with more than 192MB. After the first Sonnet owner report here noted problems, good to hear that it may not be a universal one.

" Hello, I just wanted to give you some info on a problem I found. I own a B&W G3 rev 1 with a G4/500 upgrade card. I was having a problem with the firewire ports and a firewire CDRW. To fix the problem I bought an ADS case to replace the original QPS (their support stinks), which did fix the problem of the drive not being able to burn. Over the weekend I purchased an iPod (great little device) but as I was transferring about 500MB of songs to it iTunes would cause a kernal panic. At that point I remembered your comments about B&W G3 firewire controller issues and wondered if this may be the same.
This time I decided to forgo the the internal controllers all together and buy a PCI card. I purchased the Adaptec 4300 and plugged my now working CDRW and the iPod in. I just finished transferring over 1GB of songs to the iPod and burning a number of CDs without incident. I know the ADS fixed my original problem with the CDRW case but the new card also sped the burning process. I don't have any hard numbers but it certainly is faster.
Keep up the good work, without this site I would pull what is left of my hair out in no time.
