Speaking of cloning utilities, MU today also lists something I haven't tried PSU Blast Image Config 1.0.2 that has cloning and other features.

• Quickly clone/restore a Mac OS X system disk image to a Macintosh's boot hard disk (via Apple's asr command line tool)
• Automatically set the Open Firmware boot security mode and password

  • Prevent users from entering "Single User Mode", which gives "root" access to the Mac

I just purchased a Sonnet G4 500Mhz upgrade for my PowerBook Wallstreet and the added processor speed doesn't help playing DVDs without the support of the DVD PC card. (Apple DVD option for Wallstreets had a PCcard + DVD ROM drive. Only supported in pre-OS X using the Apple DVD Player 1.x, DVD player v2.x and 3.x for OS 9/OS X don't use the hardware mpeg cards and require a Rage128 or better graphics chip/card.-Mike) My readings indicate that Apple is not supporting the DVD PC card but since the Pismo has an on-board decoder chip, this is the earliest model supported. (Actually the Pismo (PB G3 2000/firewire) has a Rage128 graphics chip which is supported by the 2.x/3x Apple DVD player in OS 9/X - it does not have a separate MPEG/decoder chip like the Lombard G3/400 model did.-Mike)
Since the Wallstreet has the best of both worlds, that's unfortunate. My Wallstreet currently has a G4 processor, 802.11b wireless networking, Mac OS X Jaguar, USB, Firewire and all the previous benefits of SCSI and ADB!

In continuing the discussion regarding playing DVD's, MPlayerOSX does work on my current configuration, but since the decoding is only handled through the processor, major dropping of frames is experienced. Even with the window displayed at half size. I'm not able to rip the VIDEO_TS folder from DVDs and for some unknown reason using DVDBackup and VideoLAN tries hard but cannot keep up. If you hear of any further development and/or backward engineering, I would appreciate being on your mailing list. I'm not giving up on my Wallstreet. I still think it's the best designed PowerBook ever...

I'd try reducing color depth to 16bit (thousands colors) which seems to be the best aid for older graphics chips in OS X. Note - I'm not sure if Darren has the RageLT (RageII) equipped first model Wallstreet or the RageProLT Wallstreet2 model (G3 233 w/512KB L2 cache/266MHz or 300MHz models), but if a WS2 model he might want to read the previous article here on OS X RagePro driver loading tips. (This won't enable Apple DVD player support of course, but has been reported to help performance with RagePro chip based systems (Beige G3 rev B or later, iMac rev B-D, PB G3 lombard, etc..)
I've not updated that older page on non-Apple DVD player for some time (just impossible to keep up with all the mail/reports here). I keep hoping that one day someone (3rd party or less likely, Apple) will release an OS X driver/support for the wallstreet MPEG decoder PCcard (original Apple kit). None of the Apple players in OS X to date have any support for the hardware decoders (Wallstreet PCcard option, Lombard G3/400 onboard chip, or B&W G3/Yikes Rage128 Piggyback card) and require a Rage128 or better graphics chip (older Powerbooks have RageII/RageProLT graphics chips that can't be upgraded).
