[Update: On March 8th, Valve officially announced They will Deliver Steam & Source games on the Mac starting in April. Steam and Valve's library of games including Left 4 Dead 2, Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike, Portal, and the Half-Life series will be available in April. Plus Portal 2 (due Holiday 2010) will be Valve's first simultaneous release for Mac and Windows. AND they note "we have added a new feature, called Steam Play, which allows customers who purchase the product for the Mac or Windows to play on the other platform free of charge." See their announcement for more info.]
(earlier post from March 3rd follows)
In a follow-up to earlier stories of OS X code/images in a recent Steam beta client for windows, Kotaku has an article today titled Valve Teases Upcoming Mac Announcement, Not So Subtly with several images "in anticipation of an upcoming announcement from Valve." That could happen at GDC next week. Rumors swirling on a possible Mac version of the Orange Box (Portal, HL2, TF2 etc) and hopes for something new like Half-Life 3 maybe? (And maybe all their current Source games including L4D/L4D2.) If you're not familiar with Valve's games, you can check out their current games listing. |

| aTV Flash 4.1 Released (adds 5.1 sound, faster web browsing) |
(from their PR mail this morning)
"aTV Flash 4.1 Released
Adds support for 5.1 sound and faster web browsing
This version adds much improved media playback, as well as compatibility for the latest 3.0.2 AppleTV software.
aTV Flash now features full 5.1 surround sound for nearly all media types including DVD (VIDEO_TS) files.
Couch Surfer Pro now features faster web browsing and enhanced support for the iPhone 'Remote' app.
As always, aTV Flash includes robust support for additional media formats that are not typically supported by the AppleTV. These formats included DivX, Xvid, AVI, WMV, DVD files (VIDEO_TS/ISO) and many more. Additionally it adds a fully integrated WebKit based web browser, and the ability to expand the storage capacity through the use of an external USB hard drive.
Detailed product information (including screenshots and screencast demo) can be seen at links the below:
aTV Flash for Mac
aTV Flash for Windows"
aTV Flash costs $49.95 w/1 year of free updates included and makes installing all the (freeware) mods/hacks for AppleTV easy. The screencast movie/review linked there used an earlier version but is very well done IMHO. |

| HandBrake AppleTV Profile tweaks |
| For anyone else that missed this earlier, the Dynaflash website (authors of ATVcloner script) posted notes on HandBrake AppleTV Hi Profile Setting tweaks for higher quality conversions. I didn't notice that post until recently. (It does seem to have helped with some blockiness/artifacts seen previously here in some darker scenes. Apparently there has been a preset update in Handbrake 0.94 since that original post as weightp is set to 0 in the current AppleTV preset.) |
