| Mac Ghost Recon 1.0.2 Beta Update |
| Brett posted a link to the update at Aspyr's Ghost Recon support page - here's the info there on the 1.0.2 beta:
"
Ghost Recon Update 1.0.2 beta
This update requires that you already have the update to version 1.0.1
above. It fixes a few minor bugs that we have received reports on, and also should fix a crash related to hosting games on GameRanger. We are releasing
this update as a beta version, to make sure we get adequate testing. If all goes well, this same version will become the final 1.0.2 update."
See the linked page for mirrors of the updates. |

| Dual G4 Tower with Water Cooled CPU Mods |
"Mike,
Here is my article on the thermal issues I ran into with the PowerLogix 1.2GHz Dual Series 133 upgrade I put into a Digital Audio 533DP PowerMac. About the second half of it covers the water cooling project.
homepage.mac.com/rgazaway/WaterCooledG4/WaterCooledG4.htm
(NOTE: His .mac page no longer exists, but with his permission I've posted a cloned version (split into 2 pages with slightly downsized images) Here.
There's also an article here on the Systems page, G4 macs section on Water Cooled MDD G4 Tower.-Mike)
And I realize this is a bandwidth-heavy page. (Total size is just over
2mb.) You might want to caution your readers about that.. I just didn't like the appearance/visibility when I
created it with reduced image sizes. (I suggested he break the article up into pages perhaps.-Mike) This article is about a fairly esoteric modification with greatest applicability for those wanting to
apply fairly expensive modifications/upgrades to fairly expensive
machines to begin with. If they don't have broadband, let them eat cake <g>.
RonG."

| Snow/Dual Ethernet Airport Base Station Firmware v4.0.8 |
Spotted it at this Macupdate page which notes:
"AirPort Base Station Firmware 4.0.8 is an upgrade for the Snow
(dual-Ethernet) base station. This firmware revision is not necessary for the Graphite base station nor the AirPort Extreme Base Station. It is recommended that you use AirPort 2.1.1 or later software with this base station firmware release.
Version 4.0.8 adds the following:
Fixes an incompatibility with some customers unable to maintain an Internet connection using BellSouth via a DSL and/or Dial-up connection.
Provides base station support for DSL users with the Telia ISP in Sweden.
Expands the number of Access Control List entries. This is dependent on the size of the description used for each entry. The total amount of space available to import is 4K - approximately 300 entries with just MAC addresses and no descriptions. It is recommended that you export your current ACL list before updating to the 4.0.8 Firmware.
Expands the number of port mapping entries to from 10 to 20.
Fixes potential issues with sending email when connected to Verizon DSL services.
Improves compatibility when posting messages or sending email through secure websites.
The Airport Admin Utility has improved scanning for base stations across local subnets. This improves the ability for AirPort computers to find base stations while plugged into the LAN port.
Compatible with Internet service providers or other home router products that use private 10.0.0.x or 10.0.1.x addresses in bridge mode." |

| ATI PR on new 9800/9600/9200 Series Graphics cards (updated w/review links) |
It's been expected for some time now ( I noticed a $100 price cut recently on existing 9700 Pro PC cards even at a local Circuit City store) and ATI now has a press release dated yesterday on 3 new graphics card models for the PC - the 9800 Pro (aka R350 I assume), 9600 and 9200. See the press release for more details (I didn't see a 9800 Pro product page there yet this morning following the normal product link tree - but running the flash demo found the product pages for the
9800 Pro, 9600 Pro and 9200.)
A reader (thanks Tim) posted some links to reviews of the 9800 Pro. (This anandtech page is one example of how the R300/9700 Pro and R350/9800 Pro compare)
The reviews note some pricing info (looks like the 9800 Pro/128MB version will list for $399, like the prev. 9700 Pro originally did, I didn't see a price on the 256MB version).
On the Mac side as you know Apple lists the 9700 Pro as a BTO option but they're not shipping yet but soon I think (can't say more right now), to be followed by a retail Mac 9700 Pro model as far as I know. (ATI has a Mac 9700 Pro (OEM) product page online.) I keep hoping the retail Mac model will be R350 based (faster clock/memory than the R300/original PC 9700 Pro model) but that remains to be seen.

| OS X 10.2 Burn Support Plugin for Lite-On LTR-32125W CDRW Drive |
Bodo Warkentin sent a Modified Liteon device-plugin edited for the LTR-32125W drive he's using with 10.2.4.
(I've added this to the listings of other drive plugins in the FAQ's CDROM/CDR section for future reference.)
NOTE:
The modified file replaces the original one of the same name already on your hard drive. (Use sherlock to search for the device-plugin file of the same name as the download file - it's a very long path in OS X.) You can't replace the existing file under OS X due to permissions unless you use the terminal to enable root user, or do a get-info on the file to change permissions temporarily, or just reboot into OS 9 and replace the file.

For guides to installing CD/CDRW/DVD drives or Hard drives in many mac models, see the IDE Articles page. The Firewire articles page also has guides on case kits, installing drives, etc. If you've added a IDE, SCSI, Firewire or USB hard drive, CDRW, tape drive, etc. make sure you add a report to the database. (If you post an updated entry - make sure you use the same name, etc. as you did before so I can find your past entry. Thanks.)
(Incomplete entries are deleted. Do not post questions in the database, it's for drive reports not questions on what drive to buy - for that try searching the database for reports from owners of your mac model on the drive type/brand/interface, etc. you're interested in.)
