Reader Request: 1st Gen Mac Pro Graphics Card upgrade for Steam?
Looking for feedback from any readers on a graphics card upgrade for an early (PCIe 1.0) Mac Pro running Steam. (Replacement for a 7300GT card that isn't supported in OS X Steam/Source games, although it is in Windows Steam.) He's considering a (flashed PC model I suspect) 8800GT at ebay, but I also mentioned the ATI 4870 (I suspect most there are flashed PC models as well. And some have had mouse tracking issues with the 4870 and some displays, a reminder on that issue here last week.) Anyway if any reader with an early Mac Pro running OSX Steam has any suggestions or comments on this, send a note and I'll pass it on. Thanks. (I mentioned having an unused OEM Mac ATI 3870 and a spare (Apple shipped) 4870. The 3870 IIRC has no OpenCL support however.)
