I got my upgrade for Bryce 5 today. I currently have Bryce 4 and have been a long term Bryce user.

The install program asks for the Bryce 5 password and then displays a box asking for the previous password since this is an upgrade installation. The install program would not recognize my Bryce 4 password. I called tech support and got to a human voice which told me I was the 4th caller in the past 10 minutes with this problem.

They are issuing a "fix" by recording our previous serial number and the Bryce 5 serial number, then giving you a number that works. The support tech was very nice and said they are more than aware of the problem. The new number works and the installation and program appear to run fine. However, you may want to alert your readers that calling Corel tech support is an experience in itself.

I will be experimenting with the lightning feature this weekend across several platforms.

Probably good news and a further explanation.
Included in the Bryce 5 shrink wrap is a single sheet entitled Bryce 5 Upgrade. The statement is roughly as follows:

"If you are upgrading from Bryce 4, .... enter your Bryce 4 serial number to confirm your eligibility. If you are upgrading from Bryce versions 1, 2, or 3D, please contact the Corel Customer Service Center nearest you to obtain a serial number." (There is an asterisk footnote which says Proof of Purchase required.)

So the good news for you is for $149+ shipping you have Bryce 5. This also explains my problem as to why my Bryce 4 serial number wouldn't work. I have been upgrading since Bryce 1 or at least 2. My Bryce 4 serial number actually starts out as BF10...... which must mean version 1. The serial number they issued me that does work starts out as BF40..... So my Bryce 4 serial number didn't work since the Bryce 5 installer thought I was upgrading from Bryce 1, which meant, if you read the instructions, the I needed to call Customer Support.

My earlier note may not be exactly correct. It would be nice of Corel, however, to tell us that if we didn't buy an original Bryce 4 we would need to call for a special serial number.

I hope you can find the extra $165 to get ver. 5 and pay for shipping. I just got to work and will be installing the Bryce Lightning client on my OS X Server and several NT boxes. We have a GIS lab on our 100 Megabit Ethernet backbone with 20+ 1 GigHz NT boxes. I have this dream of 20 some NT boxes doing you know what on Sundays. :>) I'll keep you posted.

By the way, I am not an expert on Bryce; still a novice compared to the stuff on the WEB. Bryce runs under MAC OS X but it is still plainly evident on my 450MP that it runs faster under OS 9.1. I did a render under OS X 10.0.4 with the CPU monitor working. I guess the program is using both CPUs but only one at a time. The program appeared to be oscillating between CPUs, but never once were both CPUs going flat out at the same time. The render with anti-alias did take over 2 minutes so I thought I had given the program a sufficient challenge.

" Have received my replacement power adapter today for my PB G3 Wallstreet 13" 250. Works fine (I'm using it now, without the battery in). It's made in Thailand by Delta Electronics and is not nearly as hot as the old one. It looks like the current round see through style with the roll up cord. It was shipped to me from Markham, (Ontario, Canada). I live in the Niagara peninsula in Ontario.

" OK here it is. Download the PC version and change the .zip to .rmod
Then you will need the UMOD installer from Unreal Tournament. Drop the Coop.rmod file you just downloaded onto the UMOD installer and it does everything for you and it works! I donĂt know what is wrong with the Mac version but even after using MacZip, it still kept getting a bunch of bad name errors. It looks like the rune.ini file is made for a PC and doesnĂt work at all on the Mac. If you make the changes to your original rune.ini file, you then get as far as seeing the servers but once you select one it again gets a bad name error.

But running PC .rmod version with the Unreal UMOD installer made it all work just fine. There are only 3 servers running when I tried and one of them had the Halls of Vahala (spelling?) and Mac users can't play on those servers yet :(
