Drive Genius 2.3.0 Update
There's an update to Drive Genius 2 available via the in-app update check (download for making an updated bootable CD costs $5 per the Drive Genius updates page)
Here's the info on changes from the update window:

"Version 2.3.0:
  • Bug Fix: Possible (benign) crash during a Defrag on 10.6.x.
  • Bug Fix: Possible data loss while moving a volume with Repartition.
  • Bug Fix: Possible error when Shredding the free-space of a volume.
  • Bug Fix: Repartition issues with 8TB or larger HFS+ volumes.
  • Bug Fix: Initialize works once again on 10.6+.
  • Bug Fix: Verify Preferences works once again on 10.6+.
  • Bug Fix: Repartition could spuriously fail on 10.4.x."
  • It's not mentioned in the above list, but I hope the incorrect avg rates I mentioned seeing in DG 2.2.1's BenchTest (used for Newer Tech 6G eSATA card review) has been fixed - I reported it to the DG programmer last Friday, but not sure that bugfix made it into 2.3.0. I've not run BenchTest after the update to check.

Reader feedback on SuperTalent SSD firmware 1916
(late posting this - he'd sent a FYI on the 1916 firmware update in Jan 6th news page. This SSD is also Barefoot based like the Crucial M225, OCZ vertex, etc.)

"Feedback on the 1916 firmware in a Super Talent 256G SSD.
I upgraded my SuperTalent 256 GB SSD to firmware 1916 using a Dell Laptop and the ISO CD firmware update image provided for download by SuperTalent. It went smoothly with no problems. Interestingly the update to the 1916 firmware seems to preserve the data on the disk. I had been using the SSD as a boot disk in 2009 Mac Pro (MacPro4,1; single processor, 2.66GHz) but the original goal (and reason for the purchase) for the SSD was to use it as the main disk in my 15" 2008 Mac Book Pro (MacBookPro5,1; Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.53 GHz) but it has never been reliable in the laptop. I started with firmware 1571, then 1711, 1819 and now 1916. Each time after the SSD firmware update, I have done a fresh full Time Machine backup of the MacBook Pro, partitioned the Super Talent SSD using an external firewire case, installed it in the laptop, booted from my original Install DVD and done a full restore to the SSD from the Time Machine backup. With 1571 and 1711 firmware the disk would work for a few hours in the MacBook Pro before exhibiting long slow downs and freezes. With the 1819 firmware the SSD would work for about 15-30 minutes before exhibiting slow downs and hangs. WIth the 1916 firmware the restore from the Time Machine backup would hang at random places during the restore process and I was never able to get it to complete. I have reinstalled the SSD (with the 1916 firmware) as the boot disk in the 2009 Mac Pro where it seems to generally function just fine, though I see a few strange artifacts. One artifact that I only started seeing with the SSD is that the flag that warns you when running an application downloaded from the internet for the first time doesn't get reset until the application gets run a few times. You get the warning repeatedly for the first few times you open the app, then it seems to "stick".

I cannot figure out of the incompatibility of the SSD with my Mac Book Pro is intrinsic to this Mac Book Pro revision (4,1) or something peculiar to my particular machine. The MacBook Pro lists the NVidia MCP79 AHCI chipset while the Mac Pro lists Intel ICH10 AHCI chip set. Maybe there's incompatibility of the SSD with the NVidia chip set...the counter argument (that something is wrong with my particular MacBook Pro) is that it is on it's 3rd hard disk (all under warranty) in 18 months, which is also somewhat disturbing (it has a Hitachi 250GB 7200 RPM drive).
    Rob B."

I won't repeat my previous comments on updates, problems, etc with my (also barefoot based) M225 SSD, links to forum threads/discussions from other users, etc. I haven't seen any problems yet w/1916 firmware in it, but currently only using it in an external (Elite mini pro) case. (No plans to put it back in the early 09 MBP.)
