iUSBCam v2.2.5 Update released (for 10.5.6 iChat issues)
"I saw a post on your 10.5.6 feedback page about iUSBCam not working with iChat after the OS X 10.5.6 update. (Dec. 16th reader report.-Mike)
So I just wanted to let you know that we just released iUSBCam v2.2.5. The new version adds support for using a USB webcam with iChat in Mac OS X 10.5.6.

More feedback on Dual-Link DisplayPort to DVI Adapters w/30in Cinema
(Updated - see below for a later reply, noting he can replicate the jerky mouse tracking issues other owners reported earlier.)

"Aloha Mike. My new Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI adapter was just drop shipped direct from China. My setup is a new MacBook (not Pro) and the 30" Cinema Display. I installed the adapter yesterday and have been using it all day today. No problems at all. Also, although it uses one USB port, it has a pass through so the USB hub in the Cinema Display works and still leaves an empty USB port on the MacBook.
(BTW: I asked Scott if he'd check his system log to see if he's getting repeating "dp events: 0x04" log entries (watchdog?) with the adapter in use.-Mike)
I just checked and I'm getting those messages too with many repeats. I still haven't noticed irregular mouse movements but maybe I have a different usage pattern than the other users. Or, maybe it will manifest itself under more heavy processor loads.
-Scott M."

Update - He later wrote he could replicate the problem using a "circle test" posted by another user:

"One of the posters at Apple suggested a mouse circle test. I posted the following in response:

I just tried the circle test on a relatively cold machine (I use a coolpad and I have the low power MacBook model). I did notice a small jump, as if the mouse stopped responding for a moment then tried to jump back to the correct position. Sorry I doubted you all....
Consider me converted to the idea that there is a driver problem. I will repeat the test in Windows XP and see if I can repeat the problem.

Sometimes it is just a slight pause. You have to be doing pretty precise work to notice it. Sorry I jumped to the Apple is great so there is no problem conclusion. Previous problems with other Macs should have taught me a little more wisdom.
(He later wrote)
I tested it (circle drawing test) in Windows XP and the problem doesn't manifest there. I'm guessing Mac OS driver issue.
-Scott M."

I assume everyone already tried this but asked if changing the Mouse tracking (speed) settings in OS X System Prefs had any positive effect. BTW - Rob wrote he didn't see the problem (nor the log "dp events" messages) with his replacement MacBook Pro with 10.5.5 pre-installed. (But they reoccurred after swapping in his HD w/10.5.6 from the MBP he's returning.)

Follow-up on Unibody MacBook/Pro DisplayPort to DVI adapters (from single-link adapter/23in Cinema user)
After yesterday's post on complaints from Unibody Macbook/Pro owners using the $99 Dual-Link Displayport to DVI adapter (typically with 30in Cinema displays) having mouse tracking problems, I wrote a reader that posted notes on using the adapter w/Apple ADC/DVI adapter for 23in ADC Cinema Display in the Nov. 14th news page to ask if he'd seen anything like that.

"Byron - just wanted to confirm some things after reports on jerky mouse tracking with the Apple dual-link adapter, at least with higher res Cinema 30in displays)-Mike)

1) you have the $29 Apple (single link) Displayport to DVI adapter correct? (not sure the $99 dual link adapter was shipping when you sent your first notes on Nov. 14th)
- Yes, I have the $29 single link Displayport to DVI adapter.

2) With your working setup - is the ADC display running at the native 1920x1200 resolution? (single link DVI can support that res, but I had a debate with someone on that - the 30in Cinema won't run at 1920x1200 with a single-link adapter, but wanted to confirm your single link adapter/23in Cinema ran at native 1920x1200 res.)
- Yes. Both Leopard and in Windows XP (via Boot Camp partition) accept 1920 x 1200.

3) Have you noticed any "jerky" mouse movement when using the Displayport to DVI adapter? (some DVI cinema display owners have complained about that at least with the dual-link adapter)
- No jerky mouse problems (knock wood).
Best and Merry Christmas!
-Byron"

Free HP iPrint Photo App for iPhone/Touch
Had a couple readers send a note that HP has released HP iPrint Photo (apps store link - free). Here's HP's iPrint Photo info page.
(I still use a HP AIO Photosmart C7180 (w/Wireless/Bluetooth/Ethernet/USB) bought for $99 (store demo/unused) in late Dec. 2007, although as I mentioned in that review, I switched it to a wired connection after seeing noise in wireless photo scans back then.)
