Tip for those with Time Machine error after 10.5.6 update
Many of us have not had any Time Machine problems after the 10.5.6 update. But for those that have seen an error regarding a ".00xxxxxxxxxx" (filename varies) file ownership/permissions problem, I've added a reader's tip/guide to fixing that problem via the Terminal to the previous post on 10.5.6 and Time Machine. (The reader that originally reported this today wrote he just changed the ownership of the file.) Not sure it mattered in my trouble-free 10.5.6 upgrade (no TM problems), but from day one I have always kept TM off and used the "backup now" option from the menu bar (once or twice a day as needed) - as I've never wanted hourly backups.
(And I think I may have unmounted my Firewire drive (ministack w/TM partition) before applying the Combo update (after a clean reboot also) - an old habit after a seeing some problems years ago. I'm too tired at this point to remember now, but thankfully I've had a pretty trouble-free 10.5.6 upgrade.) Some of the methods I use (D/L updaters not SU, verifying the drive/permissions before updates, clean reboots first, etc. - plus a CCC clone of my boot drive) are just like wearing a seat-belt, you may be OK without it, but it's worth the extra time IMHO, as other than some common bugs in some versions, I've usually have good luck with OS X updates.

Late 2008 MacBook/MacBook Pros can use 12.5mm high hard drives
I'd posted a question in Monday's news if the new models could use 12.5mm high hard drives since the new models have the HD in the battery bay (vs 9.5mm max height with previous Macbooks and 15in Macbook Pros). A reader (service tech) wrote the new unibody MB/MBP models can use 12.5mm high hard drives:

" Both the new (late 2008) MacBook and MacBook Pro unibody can accomodate 12.5mm HDD. I have tested it in both notebooks.
