Apple Pro Applications Update 2008-05 (Color 1.0.4 update)
Should appear in Software update if you have Final Cut Studio 2 installed, but also available at Apple's Final Cut Studio 2 Updates page (Form w/SN required)

"New in Pro Applications Update 2008-05
Pro Applications Update 2008-05 is a revision to Final Cut Studio 2.0. This update includes Color 1.0.4. The software addresses general performance issues and improves overall stability."

Apple later posted release notes for this update, and a related support doc titled "Color: XDCAM EX and HD clips are sometimes offline" that mentions this update as a fix.
FYI - although MU tonight lists Final Cut Pro 6.0.5, Compressor 3.0.5, and Shake 4.1.1 updates, they were part of last month's Pro Apps Update 2008-04.
(Also updated earlier posts on 10.5.6 and software updates listing - including Firefox 3.0.5.)

Apple Announces Its Last Year at Macworld, Jobs won't be giving Keynote
Matthew called to say this was being announced on CNBC and checking Apple's site I found a press release today titled Apple Announces Its Last Year at Macworld. Here's a snippet:

"Apple today announced that this year is the last year the company will exhibit at Macworld Expo. Philip Schiller, Apple's senior VP of Worldwide Product Marketing, will deliver the opening keynote for this year's Macworld Conference & Expo, and it will be Apple's last keynote at the show....
Apple is reaching more people in more ways than ever before, so like many companies, trade shows have become a very minor part of how Apple reaches its customers. The increasing popularity of AppleÌs Retail Stores, which more than 3.5 million people visit every week, and the Apple.com website enable Apple to directly reach more than a hundred million customers around the world in innovative new ways.
Apple has been steadily scaling back on trade shows in recent years, including NAB, Macworld New York, Macworld Tokyo and Apple Expo in Paris."

More reader reports (including problems/tips) on OS X 10.5.6 Update
I've posted a separate page of OS X 10.5.6 Update Feedback including many notes on problems some have seen - looking for confirmation or tips from anyone with similar configurations. (As usual most mails are going to be about problems and many I can't replicate here due to different systems/configurations - although there are some rare notes on fixes, such as the G5 tower/X1900 OpenGL issue with 10.5.5 that a reader posted here earlier - he said 10.5.6 seems to have fixed that.)
FYI: The 10.5.6 reports page was updated again tonight. (Note from reader w/Time Machine problems that running AppleJack 1.5 solved it initially but he wrote the next morning the same problem was back). I suspect the problem is related to the updater not completing correctly/leaving file(s) that should have been cleaned up - no TM problems here or from several other readers), updated previous report on Monitor calibration software not running (worked on his Mac Pro, problems were seen with G5 update) and updated notes from a reader that had Audio pops/noise with external/amplified speakers/headphones (he replaced a driver file from 10.5.6 with a 10.5.5 version).
The 4PM update included another report on having to reinstall Intech's Hi-Cap driver after the update, one report on iUSBCam for iChat not working, Apple USB/Ethernet adapter not working after the update (used w/G4 tower OK in 10.5.5), and another notebook user lamenting the Menu Bar Energy Saver options MIA after the update. Also some earlier reports are updated with more details.

Late 2008 MacBook owner notes on (native/bootcamp) Vista install problems with Intel X25 SSD
From a reader mail yesterday (if anyone else can comment on this write in - the owner reported the problem before Apple released the recent firmware updates for the new Macbook/Macbook Pro and Air models.)

" Subject: SSD Intel X25-M and Windows Vista Late 2008 MacBook
About SSD drives. Wanted to let people know there is a problem with Intel's X25-M on Macs (but not on PCs), where you can't install Windows XP/Vista on a Late 2008 MB/MBP, but an OCZ SSD brand does work.
- Greg
(info from apple forum thread)
Apple Boot Camp Install: Unable to install Windows Vista after SSD replacement
I recently replaced the hard drive with an Intel X25 SSD in my new MacBook (Nvidia chipset). I am able install OSX, and partition the disk for Boot Camp. However, launching the Vista install fails
.... I finally received a different SSD in exchange for the X25-M. It's an OCZ-brand SSD (model #OCZSSD2-1S64G). It works perfectly for both OS X and Vista in a Unibody MacBook
(ref: the last post (as of today) in this Apple forum thread titled Unable to install Windows Vista after SSD replacement)"

It may not matter, but that Apple forum thread was posted before last Friday's SMC and EFI Firmware Updates for Late 2008 MacBooks/MacBook Pro/MacBook Air. I remembered an earlier drive database report here (on Nov. 3rd, 2008) from a late 2008 MacBook owner that installed an Intel X25-M 80GB SSD drive (SSDSA2MH080G1GC), although he had only mentioned an OS X install. I wrote him last night to ask if he'd tried installing Windows on it. He replied today:

" I installed Windows XP thru VMWare Fusion 2.0, but not through BootCamp. It works fine for me that way.
Best, Jason
(Late 2008) 2.0ghz Macbook, upgraded to 4GB (DDR3 1066MHz) of OWC brand RAM and the Intel X25-M 80GB SSD."

This exchange reminded me of an Apple support doc I posted in here back in November regarding Late 2008 MacBook Pros and support for switching to the integrated (shared memory) 9400M (vs the 9600 GT). Here's the doc - MacBook Pro (Late 2008): Cannot select GeForce 9400M graphics in Windows (dated Nov. 24, 2008) says:

" Symptoms:
You may notice that the built-in NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics subsystem does not appear in the Device Manager and cannot be used with Microsoft Windows XP or Vista.

Products Affected: Boot Camp, MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2008)

Resolution:
The NVIDIA 9400M graphics subsystem does not work with Microsoft Windows XP or Vista software on the MacBook Pro (Late 2008)."
