| Reader Request for Messiah 3D Character Animation Tool port for OS X |
| (from a reader mail)
"
I am trying to get the word out on an application that I'd like to see
ported to MacOS.
Messiah is a fantastic character animation tool that supports all major 3d animation applications. They were at one time doing a port for MacOS but abandoned it.
quote from PMG:
"Porting messiah to the Mac really depends on if we get enough requests for a MAC version to be able to justify the
development resources, and at this point it really hasn't happened.
Best regards,
Paula Comensky
pmG Worldwide, LLC
www.projectmessiah.com"
Paula said she needed requests for a Mac version, so lets make those requests!!
Check out the tools here:
http://www.projectmessiah.com
Please send e-mails requesting a port to: customersupport@projectmessiah.com
This plugin is FANTASTIC. I know we can get it ported, we're good at this kind of stuff! I did a test and found that a character rigging in Lightwave that took me 46 hours took me only 6 in Mesiah. We're talking an incredible tool.
Thanks for your help!

| TechToolPro 4 Edrive Notes/G5 Boot tests |
Although I originally couldn't find the info on the Edrive size requirements in the PDF manual (later did - page 67), their website, FAQ, etc. - thanks to readers who replied to the earlier question on how much disk space it needs - 4GB. (It refused to install on my PB G4/800 2nd partition with only 3.4GB of free space.) I installed TTPro 4 and the "Edrive" on a Dual G5 2GHz today without any apparent problems, but I was not able to boot to the Edrive on the G5 using the "E" key at startup. I tried 3 times, each time it just booted to the standard 10.3.1 partition. But holding the Option key at boot does show the Edrive and works for booting to it. (I've not tested booting to the Edrive on other macs with the "E" key, it may work on them.) The Edrive is a nice feature and avoids having to keep the CD handy in case of a drive problem. (As long as the hard drive it's on has not totally failed to where it won't boot from any partition of course.)
BTW: even after entering the TTPro 4 Serial Number when first running it from the hard drive (after the install from CD) - I had to enter the S/N again when first booting to the Edrive.
I've not (yet) had to use it for disk repair, but it seems well worth the $49.xx upgrade price. And it's the only repair utility I own that's bootable from CD with the G5 (verified here). But it takes a long, long time to boot from the CD. I'd guess several minutes to get past the initial gray screen even with the Dual G5 2GHz, so be patient.

| iTunes4allburner Patch |
(Updated w/my experience with the patch)
A reader sent a note that Macbidouille has posted what is said to be a universal patcher for iTunes (incl. 10.3) to allow burning to unsupported drives called "itunes4allburner". For more info and a download link see this page. They note there that to use the iTunes patch you "must not create a profile". The patch didn't not work for me at first (i.e. my Firewire cased Plextor PX-708A did not show as a drive option in ITunes burning prefs) - but then I had just created a PX-708A profile (that enabled all but iTunes burn support.) In fact after this patch ASP didn't show the FW drive at all (it did before w/limited support noted) - but after running ASP again (after inserting a CD and ejecting it) - it finally showed up again on the 3rd try running ASP and checking the Firewire section. (strange...)
However I then inserted a blank CDR into the PX-708A which popped up the usual Finder dialog (asking what to do with the blank CDR) - then I ran iTunes again and the PX-708A showed up as a drive option.BTW - I've avoiding doing it personally (although several other readers have - including a PX-708A owner) since I expect a 10.3.2 update soon (and not sure what will happen when they update the frameworks) - but the only method that has worked for full support, including itunes (without modifying the iTunes app) is the previously mentioned method here of replacing the entire frameworks from an older Panther build (after editing for drive support) that was noted on the page here of Panther burn support mods. (10.3 does not use the modified 'brand' device plugin files that 10.2 and 10.1 did - FAQ here has patchburn links and many modified burn support files for pre-10.3 OS versions - our page originally posted in 2001 covers OS X 10.2/10.1 and OS 9 burn support mods for unsupported drives.)

| Reader Tip for Bank of America Mac Users |
| (I'm not a Bank of America customer so only posting this as a FYI for any readers that are)
"
I thought perhaps you can help us Bank of America Online users:
B of A informed me two months ago "when I called in" that they had made some changes with their system breaking online connections with Mac users and that it would be fixed by November. I called in again today and they said it was a Mac OS9 issue and they didn't know when it would get fixed. I asked them if any other browser would work and they said no, since it was a Mac
OS9 issue.
Well, I was in the process of downloading the last version of Netscape for Mac OS9 (classic) version 7.02 when I called. They said it wouldn't work, but being the stubborn Irishmen that I am, I installed it on my OS9.1 system and gave it a whirl, well IT WORKS! I can now do all my online stuff at B of A.
Please share this with your readers as B of A is not getting the word out and is actually giving people false information. To think I've been waiting for a fix for 2 months and there was always one there with Netscape 7.02. Plus it imports all one's IE5 Favorites so you can even use it on a regular basis.

For guides to installing CD/CDRW/DVD drives or Hard drives in many mac models, see the IDE Articles page. The Firewire articles page also has guides on case kits, installing drives, etc. If you've added a IDE, SCSI, Firewire or USB hard drive, CDRW, tape drive, etc. make sure you add a report to the database. (If you post an updated entry - make sure you use the same name, etc. as you did before so I can find your past entry. Thanks.)
(Incomplete entries are deleted. Do not post questions in the database, it's for drive reports not questions on what drive to buy - for that try searching the database for reports from owners of your mac model on the drive type/brand/interface, etc. you're interested in.)
