| G4 MDD Macs w/Custom Front Panel A/V Ports for Video Pros |
| (From a reader mail the other day - just getting to posting it)
"
Mike,
I thought this was kind of cool (click on the picture for a bigger
picture):
http://www.markertek.com/systems/finalcut_g4_mt.html
basically they sell Apple G4 with a breakout box for dv , composite, and component video hookups, but the cool thing about it is these connectors are
on the front of the machine and look to be located where one of the optical
drives would go. I think this is made by
http://www.lairdtelemedia.com/, but I having trouble finding more about how they did it

If you click on the image of the system on that page, you'll see a larger image that shows the custom (replaced lower CD bezel) front panel with A/V ports that's labeled "Laird Professional Broadcast System". (One reader replied to this post saying the AV panel in the image appears to be done in photoshop, instead of an actual photo - I'd tend to agree.)

| Overburn CD Utility for OS X |
A reader posted this in the forums the other day but I forgot to mention it.:
"
Hi everyone,
Not sure if this is common knowledge yet (I didn't know about it, that's for
sure), but it is possible to overburn CDs on a Mac! The application is
called "MissingMediaBurner_0.4" (you can find it on Versiontracker) and it
has a new feature that will create the bin/cue files for any data on your
hard drive (files, video, audio, documents, etc.). Then, it uses the
terminal to launch mkisofs and will burn your cd for you through the
terminal. It supports overburning (so long as your CD-RW drive does) so I
was able to fit 745 MB on a 700 MB media. There is a list of which drives
support overburn somewhere, but I forget the address.
Mine is an LG DVD/CD-RW combo drive, if anyone cares.

| OS X 10.2/iTunes3 Support file for Sony CRX-215E1 48x24x48x CDRW Drive |
Justin Simoni and Thomas Hamblin sent modified Sony plugin files (download links here and here) edited to support the Sony CRX-215E1 (48x24x48x) CDRW drive. Neither noted the specific OS X version, but from the file sizes I assume they are for 10.2.x but have wrote them to verify this. (I've added this info to the FAQ's CDROM/CDR section for future reference.) NOTE: As with all modified files - these are provided "as-is" with no warranty or support. This file replaces the existing Sony file of the same name (use Sherlock to find the locations of the original file (long path) - and to avoid permissions issues in OS X you may want to boot into OS 9 to replace the OS X file, or use the terminal as root. Although an option is to get info on the plugin file and temporarily change permissions. Some have noted booting to OS 9 to replace the file worked best however.)

| More Reader Comments on Quickbooks 5 Registration SN |
| (from a reader email in reply to the post in yesterday's news)
"
When I registered (required and done over the phone), the customer service
rep had to recode the serial number I had into another number in her system
to give me an authorization key to input. Trying to register on the
automated system fails, because the as a previous reader said, the numbers
we have are not the right numbers. Go figure. We paid $299 for this. Dave W.
"
Another reader wrote:
"
I also had problems registering, the automated system refused to accept
my 'serial number', which yields the required 'registration number'.
The woman who finally got the call refused the registration because I
wasn't in her database! The shipping label, all e-mail, etc. all have
my name and my company name correct-- but she still said she couldn't
issue the reg #.
I "pushed" real hard and got the issue resolved, with some very firm effort.
HOWEVER, the most important thing I noticed was the screen at initial
run, when the registration data comes up. If you elect to "register
later", you only have 25 runs of the program left. Intuit forces one to
register with them!
Many of my clients don't register to get away from the spam, etc. It
appears that one can purchase QuickBooks 5 for Mac, elect not to
register (only by telephone, no less), and only use the program 25 times!
Needless to say, this is not good...

[If you post an updated entry - make sure you use the same name, etc. as you did before so I can find your past entry. Thanks.]
(Entries today will be added the following newsday. Incomplete entries are deleted. Do not post questions in the database, it's for drive reports not questions on what drive to buy - for that try searching the database for reports from owners of your mac model on the drive type/brand/interface, etc. you're interested in.)
