Apple Powerbook G4 AL 15in Battery Recall/Exchange
Spotted the recall this morning at the bottom of the main apple.com page. (Later listed at Apple's hotnews page also.)
15-inch PowerBook G4 Battery Exchange Program
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and other international safety authorities, Apple is voluntarily recalling certain lithium ion rechargeable batteries that were sold worldwide from January 2004 through August 2004 for use with 15-inch PowerBook G4 (Aluminum) notebook computers. These batteries were manufactured by LG Chem, Ltd. of South Korea.
The affected batteries could overheat, posing a fire hazard. Apple received four reports of these batteries overheating. No injuries have been reported. Apple urges you to stop using your battery and to order a replacement battery immediately. If you continue to use your battery, do not leave it unattended and check for signs of overheating.
Apple has initiated an exchange program and will provide eligible customers with a new replacement battery, free of charge. No other PowerBook or iBook batteries are part of this recall.
Identifying your battery
The recalled batteries have the Model Number: A1045 and serial numbers that begin with: HQ404, HQ405, HQ406, HQ407, or HQ408. Batteries with the affected serial numbers contain cells that were manufactured by LG Chem, Ltd. of South Korea during the last week of December 2003 only. The model and serial numbers are located on the label on the bottom of the
battery, and can be viewed by removing the battery from the computer."
The linked page/form notes you can exchange up to 3 affected batteries. The sidebar of the exchange/form page has a short FAQ, which links to
a more complete frequently asked questions page on the battery recall/exchange program.

More feedback on 10.3.5 Memory Reporting
I've updated the page of 10.3.5 update feedback/tips with more reader reports on memory reporting after the update. I realize that it's not an officially supported system with Panther (XPostfacto required to install it) but a Beige G3 owner with three 256MB dimms reported ASP lists only a single slot listing 768MB (of unknown type and speed). Modern Macs with DDR memory seem less prone to the reporting changes/errors in 10.3.5 in general, except for 3 (so far) notebook owners that reported a 512MB SODIMM was listed as 256MB after the update. (One said about 1 in 10 reboots would show it correctly as 512MB.)

MUMenu 2.0 Update
Joel Mueller of MacUpdate sent a note that version 2.0 of MUMenu is available:
"
MUMenu is a menu item application that dynamically updates itself to display the latest Macintosh software updates posted to the MacUpdate website.
Version 2.0 has been completely rewritten so that it no longer requires the Menu Extra Enabler patch by Unsanity, allows you to add your own custom icons by simply dragging them into the Preferences well, no longer downloads the entire feed of new updates if no new updates have been posted since the last time it checked, and makes the entire user interface more sleek.

You can find full owner reports (latest shown first) by searching the database by drive/brand/interface/mac models (the latest reports are shown first in searches).
For guides to installing CD/CDRW/DVD drives or Hard drives in many mac models, see the IDE Articles page. The Firewire articles page also has guides on case kits, installing drives, etc. If you've added a IDE, SCSI, Firewire or USB hard drive, CDRW, tape drive, etc. make sure you add a report to the database. (If you post an updated entry - make sure you use the same name, etc. as you did before so I can find your past entry. Thanks.)
(Incomplete entries are deleted. Do not post questions in the database, it's for drive reports not questions on what drive to buy - for that try searching the database for reports from owners of your mac model on the drive type/brand/interface, etc. you're interested in.)
