iTunes 9.1.1 users notes on bug w/128K re-encode option (repeated sync/recoding)
(From a reader mail today - I don't use that option and still haven't updated to iTunes 9.1.1)

"iTunes 9.1.1 huge bug
Just an FYI that anyone who uses 128K re-encode mode in iTunes 9.1.1 (which was an awesome way to save space) now has an issue - a major one. The iPhone/iTouch/iPad will always resync and re-encode large chunks of songs on every sync. It's horrible and takes hours to do. I am seeing the problem my self on my iPhone 3GS and iPad both. All the iPad songs resync and re-encode and most of the iPhone ones do.
Hope Apple fixes this. Apparently to fix now you have to manually manage songs. I hope it still syncs Podcasts....

Update: Late Thursday night Paul sent a follow/tip:

"To follow up on the 128K resync issue, Apple issued a hotfix today. (It did work and solve the problem.) Now if I could just get it to stop determining gapless playback every time I sync that would be great. That's been going on since 9.1.

From the discussion group:
Hello all, If your songs with lyrics are re-syncing every time you sync (with 128 kbps conversion enabled) after updating to iTunes 9.1.1, follow these steps:
1. Re-download the iTunes 9.1.1 installer from www.apple.com/itunes/download
2. Run the installer.
This will install iTunes 9.1.1.12 over the existing 9.1.1.11.
3. Open iTunes.
iTunes will automatically update your iTunes Library. This may take a while for large libraries, but after the update has completed, syncing should return to normal."
