Tip/Fix for Maya problems with OS X 10.6.3
I don't have Maya installed to test this - but posting as a FYI (from a reader mail today)
"Subject: Maya 2010 running on 10.6.3 workaround for glitchy windows
Hi Mike, I'm running Maya 2010 on a Mac Pro with a GeForce 8800 GT card. I have the same problems as other users when running maya. (re: yesterday's post on Maya 2009/2010 issues w/10.6.3)
What I found fixes them is if you boot Maya from the OpenGL profiler (Developers tool application) and click the "Use custom pixel format" checkbox. Click the "Edit" button next to it and in the new window that pops up, double click "kCGLPFABackingStore" and under the "Value" change it to a "1". Now you can press the Launch button in the main OpenGL Profiler window and Maya should be working OK. It'll behave the way it did before the update to 10.6.3. Hope this helps!
Regards, Chris"

FYI - The reader that reported the problem yesterday sent a note:

Maya fix works
Some people on CGSociety thank you for posting that fix. It works well.
-Dave"

Thanks to Chris for sending the tip.

First Impressions/Pix - Logitech Speaker Lapdesk N700 w/17in MacBook Pro
I've posted a page with some photos and comments on the Logitech Speaker Lapdesk N700 used with a 17in MacBook Pro. Although the N700 isn't spec'd for a 17in notebook, the MBP is narrow enough that it only overhangs the speakers appx 1/2 - not a biggie IMHO.

WDTV Live Firmware 1.02.21
(A little late posting this and I suspect owners have already spotted it.) After 2 beta/pre-release versions, WD has posted a WDTV Live Firmware 1.02.21.

  • Added Play To support for Microsoft Windows 7.
  • Added external subtitle location options (Up/Down arrows).
  • Added larger subtitle font size options.
  • Added Western European language input for keyboard.
  • Other bug fixes and product improvements (see release notes).

Here's the full release notes PDF. To read Feedback on this firmware, see this forum thread. (One of the later posts includes info on backflashing if need be - i.e. editing the ver file of the previous firmware so that it has a later version number.)
