| 8-Core Mac Pro Temperatures, more on Power Fractal Performance |
I've created a separate page for Mac Pro 8-core reports and have added the latest info from Lew on Temperature Montor readings (after running Power Fractal for a couple hours) and his latest readings from a KillaWatt meter. Also added is his reply with more info on Power Fractal performance with various max count settings. (He noted up to 62GigaFlops in a previous post, a Dual Core Xeon Mac Pro owner doubted that, saying his system scored a max of 20GF.) What's odd is Lew saw better performance with the PPC (rosetta) version than the universal version - as did some others that tested after seeing this. (I wrote the developers of Power Fractal to ask for their take on this.)

| Tips for EyeTV 2.4 scheduled recordings with cable box using IR blaster |
(Updated again at 5PM, with more notes on a workaround direct from ElGato support)
I don't own EyeTV but posting as a FYI :
"
Thought I'd pass this on and see if others have experienced the same bug with the newly released EyeTV 2.4 and its cable-box/IR blaster feature. Because of this newly promoted feature, I purchased a ZephIR IR blaster and moved my digital cable box to my computer/EyeTV setup. I have nothing but praise for the ZephIR product itself and its customer service. The device works as promised.
However, while EyeTV 2.4 ably activates the ZephIR and changes my
cable box channel during manual tuning, the EyeTV software does not activate the IR blaster function for scheduled recordings. Since
scheduling EyeTV to record programs when you're not around to
manually change channels on the cable box is the whole point of the
ZephIR, this is a rather significant bug for Elgato to have missed.
When I contacted the Zephir developer, John Sims, he confirmed the
problem with his own rig and said Elgato is now aware of the bug. I
suspect that additional contacts from EyeTV users might help speed
the fix along.
(Update - he later sent info on a workaround)
Followup on EyeTV 2.4 problems:
Elgato Tech Support has a workaround fix for the EyeTV/ZephIR issues:
after configuring EyeTV for use with a cable box, go back to your
regular cable and antenna channel lineups and uncheck (one by one --
there' s no way to do all of them at once) every channel in those
line-ups to render them inactive. That's 100+ clicks of the mouse.
(Note - see below for El Gato info on workaround - no 100 clicks required - instead, just Select All, and choose Disable Selected Channels. See details below from El Gato.-Mike)
Then return to your cable box channel lineup, where everything should
still be checked.
Now scheduled EyeTV programs should cause the ZephIR to do it's thing
and change your cable box. Unchecking those channels also seems to
resolve an issue with the built-in program guide.

El Gato's Tech Support manager spotted this post and sent better info on the workaround:
"
In reference to the exchange posted earlier today, here is our latest FAQ article.
Note that one doesn't have to perform "100+ clicks", instead, just Select All, and choose Disable Selected Channels.

[EyeTV 2] Some channels won't control the Set Top Box via IR when recording
EyeTV 2.4 adds the ability to download channel lineups for a cable box or satellite receiver.
Instructions for setting this up are here: http://faq.elgato.com/index.php/faq/more/508/
If you already have analog (basic) cable channels listed in EyeTV, then the new Set Top Box (cable or satellite) listings may conflict with the older channels. These channels can cause problems when you try to record - EyeTV may attempt to use the old analog cable or antenna channels via the tuner, when it should be using the composite or S-Video input from your cable box or satellite receiver.
The solution would be to turn off the unwanted analog channels, that also can be accessed via the cable box or satellite receiver.
1) Open the EyeTV Programs Window
2) In the Channels section, show your Analog - Cable channels.
3) Press Command-A, or choose Select All from the Edit menu
4) Choose Disable Selected Channels from the Action menu (it looks like a gear or wheel, next to the "EyeTV" logo).
5) Update the Program Guide again
If you are using a satellite service with local channels, then you also may need to perform the same steps, for Analog - Antenna, or Analog - Cable.
In short, turn off your existing channels that may overlap those that can be accessed by your Set Top Box. This should allow the proper listings to appear in the Program Guide, and those listings to work with your IR Blaster (if being used).
